The Joys of Fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks

Fish YEAR ROUND.
One of the great things about fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks is no matter what time of year it is, there's always something to fish for, whether it be bass, crappie, catfish etc. So if you prefer fishing in the summer when the warmer temperatures have arrived or in the winter when the colder temperatures are causing the bass to feed more heavily - either way, the Lake of the Ozarks is the place for you!

Enjoy EATING what you catch.
Some people prefer to only fish for what they will eat. We can respect that. There are several fish that can be caught at the Lake of the Ozarks that would make a delicious meal. For example, you catch all sort of catfish out of the Lake and they taste amazing. Here's a recipe we found online for you to try:

Southern Fried Catfish

Recipe by: Mama Smith

Ingredients
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup water
salt and pepper, to taste
1 pound catfish fillets, cut in strips
1 1/2 cups fine cornmeal
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon seafood seasoning, such as Old Bay™
1 quart vegetable oil for deep frying

Directions
In a small bowl, mix buttermilk, water, salt, and pepper. Pour mixture into a flat pan large enough to hold the fillets. Spread fish in one layer over bottom of pan, turning to coat each side, and set aside to marinate.

In a 2 gallon resealable plastic bag, combine the cornmeal, flour, and seafood seasoning. Add fish to mixture, a few fillets at a time, and tumble gently to coat evenly.

Heat oil in deep fryer to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).

Deep fry fillets until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Avoid overcrowding so fillets have room to brown properly. Fish should be slightly crisp outside, and moist and flaky inside. Drain on paper towels.

Enjoy the beauty of the Lake while you are fishing.
The Lake of the Ozarks was voted the #1 recreational Lake in the Nation by USA Today and for good reason! The Lake holds so many breathtaking views for you to enjoy from the water while you are fishing.

Fish at the Lake of the Ozarks with Freedom Boat Club!

The Lake is loaded with a variety of fish species:

  • largemouth bass
  • spotted bass
  • black and white crappie
  • blue catfish
  • channel catfish
  • flathead catfish
  • white bass
  • hybrid stripers
  • paddlefish
  • walleye
  • bluegill

Most species can be caught year-round; they just change their habits depending on the season.  For example, most of the year walleye, paddlefish, and white bass are scattered throughout the Lake.  But in the springtime, because they are migratory, they tend to congregate in the upper ends of the Niangua, Gravois or Grand Glaize arms.
