Fall Boating Safety Tips

Dress appropriately.
Fall is cold here at the Lake of the Ozarks so don't be dressing like you are coming down here for the summer. Jeans, sweatpants, hoodies, sweatshirts, caps, tennis shoes, and coats are all appropriate forms of clothing for the fall if you plan to be out on the water.

Let someone know where you plan to boat that day.
It's a good idea to tell someone, whether that be a loved one, friend, or co-worker that you plan to go out boating and what area of the Lake you plan to be in, just in case something unexpected happens. For example, if you have boat trouble and your cell phone doesn't have service where you are at, at least someone will know where you're at so they can come to help you if they don't hear from you later that day.

Always check the weather forecast before you plan to go out.
Weather can be extremely unpredictable here at the Lake of the Ozarks. One year, it snowed in the month of May - no joke. The point here is to just check the weather before you head out on the water, no one wants to get caught out in lightning and a thunderstorm.

Boat sober.
Never operate a boat while drinking alcohol. Always designate a sober boat captain, we can't stress that enough. Too many boating accidents have happened at the Lake of the Ozarks that have been caused by boating while intoxicated.
