- Be weather conscious.
- Use your common sense, for example, don't taking a boating trip if you know there is a storm coming.
- Designate an assistant on the boat.
- Develop a float plan, just in case.
- Use life jackets when needed.
- If you're the one driving the boat, drive sober.
- Take swimming lessons, if you don't know how to swim.
- Enroll in a boating course.
- Take advantage of a FREE vessel safety check from the US Coast Guard.
- Have a weather radio on board.
