The Story of Freedom Boat Club

Founded in 1989

Freedom Boat Club was first founded in 1989 in Sarasota, FL. It is the oldest and largest boat club in the nation. At that time, the concept of having a boat club was considered revolutionary and a break through. Having a boat club hadn't really been done in that area before. There weren't really boat clubs, boating timeshares, fractional boating, or even boat rental facilities. The vision and purpose of Freedom Boat Club is to provide an affordable option to boat ownership and to deliver a hassle-free recreational boating experience for its members. 

The Growth of Freedom Boat Club in the Beginning


When Freedom Boat Club launched, it provided an alternative and open up the waterway for new boaters as well as returning boaters. As the organization began to grow. Freedom Boat Club was to an investment group. Over the years, it became more evident that the best leadership for this type of business model would require active engagement at the helm.

John Giglio and Robert Daly had both been working for the investment opertaor and negotiated to buy the enterprise in 2011. Mr. Giglio bought Mr. Daly out in 2012 and became the sole President and CEO of Freedom Boat Club.

Under Mr. Gigkio's passionate leadership, along with a committed group of entrepreneurial franchise owners, Freedom Boat Club is thriving. Today over 15,000 boaters call Freedom Boat Club home, with 130+ locations in 22 states and Canada with franchise operations situated coast to coast and growing daily. While the mission has remained the same, the composition and scope has expanded over time.



The Members


Freedom Boat Club welcomes a very wide range of types of members. We have members that range from first-time boaters to former boat owners, from young families to active retirees. Anyone who loves the water and water-related activities is embraced as a member of Freedom Boat Club.
