It's that time of year again and you are all PUMPED up about FISHING at the Lake of the Ozarks! Who wouldn't be? It's a fun and exciting activity to do at the lake. As a member of our boat club at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will have unlimited access to our fishing boats. August is a GREAT time to catch that TROPHY FISH you've been dreaming about. In this blog, Freedom Boat Club is going to give you some fishing tips for August at the lake and feature some of the prime fishing boats that are available to you as a member.
The Lake of the Ozarks is one of the best places to catch some huge catfish. There are 3 species of catfish found in the lake; blue, channel, and flathead catfish. However, the best and most popular catfish to eat is the blue catfish.

Fishing in August at The Lake of the Ozarks
Catfish and Bass
The Lake of the Ozarks is one of the best places to catch some huge catfish. There are 3 species of catfish found in the lake; blue, channel, and flathead catfish. However, the best and most popular catfish to eat is the blue catfish.
Popular methods to catch these fish include:
- trolling techniques to target the big blues
- trotlines
- jugging
- conventional slip sinker rigs
You can also target certain species with different types of bait. Use a live, active bait, such as a crawfish or sunfish hooked through the back, if you are targeting a flathead. Use dead or cut bait if you are attempting to catch blue catfish. A ton of different baits can be used to catch the channel catfish, but the most popular are dough or stink bait.
