Boat Safely This Fall!

You should be safe any season of the year that you are boating in, but fall is right around the corner and the Lake of the Ozarks is a lot less crowded. While there are fewer people on the Lake, boat safety should still be a priority. Our boat club at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you a refresher on boat safety. To boat safely with Freedom Boat Club at the Lake of the Ozarks, call 573-302-0392.

Boat Safety Tips

Bring enough life jackets for everyone on board.
If you are pulled over by the Water Patrol, one of the main things they may check for is that you have enough life jackets on board for everyone. If you don't, you may have to pay a serious fine.

Always designate a sober captain.
We hope everyone has fun while they are out on the water, but safety should still come first. If you plan to drink alcohol while out on the Lake, just make sure you have a sober person to drive the boat back to the dock. Not only could you be pulled over by the Water Patrol and receive a BWI (Boating While Intoxicated), but you could also be endangering the lives of everyone on board, but you could be putting the people in the boats around you at risk as well. Make sure whoever is driving the boat is sober.

Pay attention to other boaters in your area.
While the Lake isn't as crowded in the fall, there are still other boaters in the area. Pay attention to the direction they may be turning and how fast they are going. Drive your boat in anticipation of what other boats are doing and be ready to react properly when needed.

Check the weather before you go out.
Who wants to be out on the Lake of the Ozarks in the middle of a thunderstorm? We certainly don't. Check the weather forecast before you leave on your boating adventure and if a storm appears to be coming, don't risk it. If you are out on the water and you start to see the dark clouds rolling in or you get a notification stating storms are coming, you should get your boat to the dock as soon as you can.
